GRAND CONCERTO FANTASY

Exciting Duo concert at Hamarikyu Asahi Hall in Tokyo with fantastic Shigenori KUDO on September 17th, 2013! My first live recording for CD. World premiere recording of “En Passant” by Luna Alcalay (1928-2012). A wonderful piece for flute solo she composed for me in the last years of her life. Miss you, Luna!

CON BRAVURA / Franz & Karl Doppler

A virtuoso tribute to the flute-stars of the mid 19th century! The Doppler-brothers Franz and Karl both were principal flutists at the dawn of the Vienna Philharmonic. It’s absolutely special and unique in our musical world, that we – Karl-Heinz Schütz and me, the young principals of the Vienna Philharmonic today – have the possibility to play and record the music of our predecessors.

Hummel / Schöne Minka

Late classical/early romantic composer Johann Nepomuk Hummel wrote a wonderful trio for flute, violoncello and piano in 1818 based on the Ukrainian folk-song “Schöne Minka”. Beethoven himself used this famous melody three times in different works. We had a lot of fun when we recorded the trio in 2012.

Dussek / Grand Sonata for Flute, Violoncello and Piano

If you read about musical lifes in the 18th/19th century – such as about celebrated pianist, glassharmonica player and composer Johann Ladislaus Dussek – even the wildest contemporary popstars seem very tame in comparison. His Grand Sonata for flute, violoncello and piano is a precious work and I’m happy to have had the chance to record it.

Brilliant Flute

Thanks to my friends at Sankyo company I was able to record many all-time favourite flute pieces for this debut recording in Japan. Especially the world premiere recording of Briccialdi’s Lohengrin-Fantasy contributed to this great piece’s revival. This recording also honors my incredibly important first teacher Johannes von Kalckreuth who loves this repertoire so much!

Listen audio-excerpt 2 Wagner: Lohengrin (Fantasie von Giulio Briccaldi Op.129)
Listen audio-excerpt 3 Paganini: 24 Caprises for Flute solo No.11
Listen audio-excerpt 1 Schubert: Gute Nacht

Chopin, Françaix, Dichler

My arrangement of the famous Chopin Piano Trio recorded in a spectacular but freezing wine cellar in Langenlois, one of Austria’s most famous wine regions. Including the really tricky but wonderful trio by Jean Françaix and a piece by our pianist’s teacher, Josef Dichler. Colorful!

Orsolino Qunitett / Mozart, Reicha, Ligeti, Villa-Lobos

You get to know your friends really well, when you do a recording of Ligeti’s 10 pieces for woodwind quintet. For me this is a breathtaking CD full of energy, risk and fun. We were one of the world’s finest woodwind quintets, won important competitions and played countless concerts together. But five soloists in 5 different orchestras… I guess we will return for our revival tour…let me say…around 2035!

Orsolino Quintet / Mozart, Danzi, Taffanel, Ibert

After our award-winning participation in the famous international music competiton of the ARD in Munich in 1997 and 2001, Tudor/Zurich released this delicate debut CD of all time woodwind-quintet classics with the Orsolino Quintet.
